We are committed to fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS and TB
Sekhukhune Women Against HIV/AIDS and TB (SWAHAT) is a South African NPO formed in 2010 by a group of women to help the Department of Health to fight the spread of HIV/TB, radical elimination of Gender Based Violence and taking care of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in the district.
We provide health care services to the general population and communities of increased risk for HIV and TB, sex workers, Men having Sex with Men and people using drugs.
About Us
Sekhukhune Women Against HIV/AIDS and TB Prevention and Treatment in short known as (SWAHAT) was established in February 2010 by a group of women concerned about the scourge of HIV/AIDS and TB in their communities, and the fact that women, children and female sex workers are most vulnerable.
SWAHAT committed itself to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS & TB by:
- Mobilizing community members to know their status, and increase health seeking behaviors by visiting their local Clinics or Hospitals for an HIV test.
- Conduct door to door campaigns,
- Talk to youth in and out of school as well as young women of child bearing age about HIV/AIDS/and TB prevention.
- Visit taxi ranks, Social Clubs, Shebeens, Trucking stops, business institutions, encourage people to go for a test, so as to know their status, since prevention is better than cure.
- Identify and assist Orphans and vulnerable children.
- Give support and care for victims of Gender Based Violence.
